A lashing is an arrangement of rope used to secure two or more items together in a somewhat rigid manner.  Lashings are most commonly applied to timber poles, and are commonly associated with the scouting movement and with sailors.  The most common lashing knots that are used is the SQUARE LASH.

Terminology

1. Wrapping: are turns of ropes around the object you are securing, the core rope work.
2. Frapping: are turn of ropes in between wrappings, used to tighten the core rope work.
